Positive PCR Test Results On Campus By Day

Chart summary: This bar chart begins on January 3, 2022 and shows total positive test results among students and employees by day. The chart also shows a curve line representing the rolling 7-day average positives. Data points for specific days can be found by stepping through the chart’s daily data points. In general, students account for roughly 60 percent of positives through late January. In February and March, students have accounted for 80-90 percent of positive results. During the first half of January, positive cases were generally between 150 and 200. Through mid-February, cases ranged between roughly 50 to 100 a day. After February 20, cases had generally dropped below 10 a day until late March when cses started slowly increasing. By the end of April cases were around 20 a day.

Dane County New Cases By Day

On January 16, an aberration in data reporting resulted in 11,385 cases being reported. Beginning in mid-January, daily cases began steadily falling and were down to less than 100 a day by early March and remained at that level through the month. Beginning in the last couple days of March, cases were again topping 100 a day and had increased throughout the month to more than 300 a day.

Data points for specific days can be found by stepping through the chart’s daily data points. Reported cases ranged between 6000 and 8000 in early January. On January 16, an aberration in data reporting resulted in 38,460 cases being reported. Beginning in mid-January daily cases began steadily falling and were down to less than 600 a day by early March. For most of March cases were under 400 a day. In late March and through pril cases began to increase and were more than 1500 by the end of April.

The chart also shows a curve line representing the rolling 7-day average of tests. Data points for specific days can be found by stepping through the chart’s daily data points. There are no tests on weekends. In general, students account for roughly 60 percent of tests each day. Through mid-February, about 800 to 1,000 tests were performed a day. Beginning the week of February 14, tests had fallen below 600 and had dropped to 400 or fewer by early March. During spring break, March 12–20, tests were under 200 a day. Throughout April, tests were roughly atound 200 a day.

Campus testing is offered Monday-Friday by appointment through the MyUHS app or web portal. Test results are reported on the day the result is received.

January 18: At-home antigen tests made available to students and employees. PCR testing continues, especially for unvaccinated students and employees, symptomatic students and employees and close contacts.

About the Data
- This dashboard features data from testing performed on campus.
- Testing data includes results from voluntary testing available to students and employees. Students who are also employees are counted under students. Mandatory, on-campus testing of unvaccinated individuals — employees and students — was paused effective April 4, 2022
- In keeping with the state’s COVID-19 reporting practices, results from self-administered antigen tests are not being collected or reported on this dashboard. Currently the state requirement for reporting is a positive PCR test or a positive antigen test administered by a trained individual at a testing site.
- Vaccination data is based on the number of enrolled students coming to the main UW–Madison campus for any purpose and on the number of employees on the main UW–Madison campus.
- This dashboard does not distinguish between students living on or off campus.
