Weekly Briefing, January 25, 2021

The seven-day positivity rate is 0.2% for employees and 0.5% for students. Since Jan. 18, 96 university members have tested positive; 74 tested positive the week before.

The spring semester began today, Jan. 25. All students living in Madison and all employees who work on campus should be tested according to the schedule provided by the Safer Badgers app. We encourage all university members to be in compliance with testing requirements, but building restrictions will not take effect until Feb. 8. Find more information on how to get tested and new testing requirements.

With a high level of community spread in Dane County and across Wisconsin, it remains critical to take precautions: limit trips out, avoid gathering in-person, practice physical distancing, wash hands frequently, stay home when sick, and wear a mask in public.

University Health Services continues to vaccinate eligible Phase 1a and Phase 1b employees and students against COVID-19, including those over age 65. Eligible employees and students should respond to email messages to schedule an appointment for vaccination.

A state of emergency and public health emergency remain in effect in the state of Wisconsin, extending the face covering requirement in order to address hospital bed and staff shortages. A local order from Public Health Madison & Dane County remains in effect and includes a ban on indoor off-campus gatherings of more than 10 people. UW–Madison remains subject to state orders.

This dashboard was updated today to reflect changes in testing data with the launch of the Safer Badgers app and the spring semester testing program. The Daily Snapshot provides four key metrics about the health of campus and information about how those metrics have changed over the past week. Daily Cases and Percent Positivity 7-Day Average are now combined in a single graph, and we share the total number of daily tests in a separate graph. The combined on- and off-campus testing data and summary data portions remain unchanged.

This new dashboard shows data back to Jan. 1. Visit the fall semester’s archived dashboard and data.

Hospitalizations: No UW–Madison students or employees have reported current hospitalizations due to COVID-19. PHMDC tracks hospitalizations on its dashboard.
